Flickr to Photocast converter
What does it do?
Photocastr turns your Flickr sets into Photocasts that can be consumed by iPhoto or other tools that support the format.
How do I use it?
You'll need a Flickr account. When you go to the Photosets tab it will redirect you to a Flickr page asking for permission to read your files. Once you gave Photocastr the permission you'll be sent back to the overview listing. If you click the sets listed there you'll get a RSS feed returned which is in the Photocast format. You can use this link to subscribe to that Photocast. In iPhoto you can do so in the menu via File -> Subscribe to Photo Feed.
What does it cost?
The service is free, as long as we don't start to hit the free quota of Google Appengine.
Why not use the Flickr RSS feed?
Unfortunately those feeds are very limited. You can only view a limited number of items in a set and there is no way to access the content that is not defined as public. By accessing the Flickr API, Photocastr shows your full set including private photos.
Is it safe?
You'll notice the token provided in the feed URL. This is the token used by the Flickr API to authenticate you. Make sure you keep this token confidential and you'll be fine. Our systems pass on this information every time you call up the feed and with that authenticate you against the Flickr API. No data is stored on our systems for this.
You can always revoke permissions for Photocastr in your Flickr settings. If you do so and return to Photocastr a new token will be assigned to you by Flickr.
